ABOUT THE OWNER/WRITER

Before Résumé Writing

I have been writing professionally for over 25 years. My father was a writer, so I guess it was inevitable; but, it wasn't until 7th grade, when I took a creative writing class, that I became inspired to write. It was the first time I realized that writing could actually be fun! Prior to that, I thought it was just like the novels that we were forced (um...assigned) to read. Most of those assigned books were so boring to me.
Later, I realized that great storytelling required the main writing tool of "illustration" in every sentence, which was certainly lacking from those assigned novels! In high school, I began writing illustrative sentences in all of my essays. The grades I received encouraged my writing even more.
Shortly, thereafter, I began incorporating storytelling into poetry. I then began writing poems into every card I presented to my friends and family on their birthdays and anniversaries. Little did I know that my poetic Christmas cards would become a tradition that is still in effect today!
Once I got into the corporate world of working for six "Fortune 500" companies, I began learning all of the facets needed to survive and excel around corporate politics. I started to climb up the ladder of success fairly quickly. The main reason that I was able to persistently and rapidly move up through the ranks, besides my hard work, was due to my writing skills. I composed memos, self-analyses, email correspondences, monthly accomplishment reports, and many other corporate documents, knowing how important each of my writings had to be, especially for those applicably competing against other managers. It was even more rewarding when my written recommendations helped promote employees that reported to me.

Résumé Writing Begins

As my ambitions grew, I realized how imperative a powerful résumé was in order to allure employers to want to interview me instead of someone else. I began reading about the strategies needed in a résumé. As the circle of life goes, I knew that, although résumés demand a different format of writing, I was back to the point I had learned in the 7th grade: every written sentence needs to be illustrated.
After writing and putting together my own résumé, so many employers reached out to me to schedule interviews. Additionally, during many of those interviews, my résumé was constantly praised by the interviewers, including senior managers. Even during the questioning process, because each line on my résumé was always true, I was also able to answer any applicable questions posed. As a result, the interviews were mostly comfortable and not intimidating, which helped me achieve my career pursuits.
When the U.S. economy began to suffer, I offered to write résumés for others, especially those that were failing to get interviews. As my résumé writing kept succeeding by enabling interviews for others, a non-intended network of folks developed and so did the demand for my résumés! While I felt so good knowing that one or two pages of a document that I wrote helped each of these individuals, I also knew that I could utilize my skills into a business, while continuing to help others with my writing.
In 2003, I formed a website to offer all of my writing services and later decided to create 1on1Résumés.com focused solely on résumés as more and more people needed my skills to help resolve their stagnant careers or help them accelerate their job growth. There are so many résumé sites offering résumé building or résumé writing; however, I feel strongly that my written résumés have the absolute edge over all of them. Not only have I been dissecting and forming strong sentences longer than most of my competitors, but I've also climbed the "corporate" ladder of success while being heavily involved in hiring employees and knowing exactly what employers are looking for in today's competitive environment.

Résumé Writing Continues

I take excessive pride in knowing that my résumé writing continually opens doors for the majority of people that utilize my service, despite these tough economic times. Although I'm proud of that, I will not stop learning every strategic aspect needed for the ever-changing requirements of a résumé. I want each of my customers to have the advantage over their competitors. Besides, as I've learned, writing is fun!!
